At the age of 14, in 1984, when he beatboxed for Ready Ron, DMX made his debut in the music business. After doing time in jail for stealing a puppy, he started writing his own lyrics and giving performances at the neighborhood playground for younger kids. He started spending almost all of his free time writing rhymes and meeting and rapping with K-Solo in 1988 while also serving time for carjacking.

After being freed that summer, he started making and selling his own mixtapes where he rapped over the instrumentals of other songs. He sold them on street corners and did this to help him gain a loyal following throughout New York. Percee P and DMX both performed freestyles on The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show in 1991.

Tracks for DMX’s debut album were recorded between September 1996 and January 1998. In this period, the then-unsigned rapper gained significant fame because of his guest spots on Mase’s singles 24 Hours to Live and Take What’s Yours, The LOX’s tracks Money, Power & Respect, and LL Cool J’s single 4, 3, 2, 1. 

His first major-label single, Get at Me Dog, was made available by Def Jam Recordings in February 1998. The song was given a gold RIAA award. It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot, his debut major-label album, which featured the single Ruff Ryders Anthem, was later published in May 1998. Over five million copies of the album were sold, and it debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart in the United States.

His second album, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, was released in December 1998. It reached multiple platinum sales after debuting at the top of the Billboard 200.

His Third Album Was His Most Successful Album

On December 21, 1999, he released his third and best-selling album, And Then There Was X. His third album made Billboard 200 debut at the top. His first Top Ten R&B smash, Party Up (Up in Here), from the album was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 2001 Grammy Awards. 

The album received a six times Platinum certification and a 2001 Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album. DMX also had a brief cameo on the Sum 41 song Makes No Difference.

Tacoma Simmons’s Father Died From a Heart Attack

Earl Simmons, widely known by his stage moniker DMX, started using drugs when he was just 14 years old. The artist never succeeded in beating his addiction, despite visiting numerous recovery centers. It ultimately destroyed both his life and his musical career as a result.

On April 2, 2021, Simmons suffered a heart attack at home and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Sources speculate that a narcotic overdose may have caused the attack. Unfortunately, the rapper’s health had gotten worse and worse since he was brought to the hospital. He eventually passed away on April 9 and a cocaine-induced heart attack was the reason for his demise.
