Meyer once attended the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in St. Louis for a brief period of time. She got involved in the charismatic Life Christian Center church in Fenton and started teaching an early-morning Bible lesson there. Meyer quickly rose to become the church’s associate pastor. She was well-known as a Bible teacher, which helped the church grow into one of the most influential charismatic congregations in the region. She also started broadcasting a daily, 15-minute radio show on a station in St. Louis.

Meyer left her position as an associate pastor in 1985 and started her own organization, initially known as Life in the Word. From Chicago to Kansas City, she started broadcasting her radio show on six additional stations.

Her husband Dave proposed that they launch a television ministry in 1993. Her show, currently known as Enjoying Everyday Life, which debuted on superstation WGN-TV in Chicago and Black Entertainment Television (BET), is being broadcasted to this date.

Meyer received nearly $10 million from mainstream publisher Hachette Book Group in 2002 in exchange for the rights to her backlist of independently published works.
