Richard claimed that the piano entrance to Ike Turner’s song Rocket 88 had a significant impact on his playing technique. In addition, he started appearing in the touring performance of Doctor Nubillo in 1949.

Richard passed away at his home in Tullahoma, Tennessee, on May 9, 2020, at the age of 87, from a condition connected to bone cancer. He fought cancer for two months but sadly couldn’t win the battle.
